The purpose of recertification is to verify that you still meet a certain level of expertise in medical-surgical nursing. For this reason, we limit the number of non-medical-surgical related contact hours you can earn to 22 hours. The remaining 68 hours must be related to medical-surgical nursing.
Similarly, we want our CMSRNs to be well-rounded in their contact hour activities. This is why we limit the number of contact hours you can claim from preceptorships (max 20 contact hours), academic credits (max 75 contact hours), and all other contact hour activities.
